Time Management Implementation – Part Four

So here I am, thinking, “Wow, what a horribly unproductive day.” I tend to think like that when my day starts out full of opportunity and ends up being wasted. I slept in, then I started out with a real simple 10 minute change that turned into a several hour “why won’t it work and why did it break this too?” session.

Some days I really hate computers.

In any case, with most of the changes now made, on with the show.

After another week of unpredictability with my job, I’ve come to realize that I need to start from square one. Realistically I only have Mondays, Saturdays sort of, and Sunday afternoons sort of. By ’sort of’ I mean that I try to live like I’m a day person on those two days and I can’t predict that I’ll be on the go all day. Sometimes I can go a few hours then I need a nap, sometimes I go all day, sometimes I can barely keep my eyes open with or without a nap.

During the week I can often count on Monday nights, Tuesday nights and Thursday nights. But when I try scheduling that as regular work hours, things come up. I have children, they have activities, dad is expected to be at some of those.

I’ve also noticed I tend to have unrealistic expectations. I’m not talking about what happened today, even the best planned person can run into something unexpected. I’m talking about plotting out all the things I think I’ll get done and severely underestimating how long they take and/or how tired I am.

So this is what I’m going to do. I will count Mondays, all day and evening, as a work day. Unfortunately it’s also the main day to run errands, but I don’t have to do that very often. I will count 4 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday as work days. I don’t want to work on Sundays but until things turn around I really need to.

Any other times I will count as a bonus and use them to either get ahead or get caught up. I will also try to scale back on what I plan to accomplish as it’s too dependent on outside factors at this time. One project I’ve recently undertaken is a new blog series on How To Set Up A Blog And Forum and I need to make sure I update that weekly until it’s done.

Plus I’m helping a couple of people get their blogs up and running.   And at some point I’m supposed to be writing articles, social networking, researching a new niche…..sigh.
