How To Set Up Your Own Blog
By Jeffery Wood | December 17, 2009
I’m trying out an experiment. I’m working on practicing my SEO skills so on my original blogging site where I was trying to sell a product that taught you how to set up your own blog and then eventually gave away my e-book on how to set up a your own wordpress blog on that site I have rewritten it, taken away the e-book, and left a general information page.
I’m just curious where it will end up in the search engines. Teaching people how to blog, whether they want to learn how to create a celebrity website, a news blog, personal blog, sports blog, or whatever kind of blog was enjoyable, but I know a lot more now than I did then.
I’ve learned a lot about affiliate marketing from Lynn Terry over at Clicknewz.com and she won’t tell you the niches she’s in, but she teaches you how to find them, see if they’re profitable, and how to do proper search engine optimization for them.
I also learned a ton from The Griz on his how to make money online site. He also teaches how to do proper SEO, how to set up a site properly for Adsense, backlinks, and how to dominate any niche. For the last couple of months I have read every single post he ever made on it over the past three years.
I probably learned more from him about the proper ways of doing a website and how to get ‘buying traffic’ instead of ‘reading traffic’ than from anyone.
The bane of doing my type of blog is that I tell you what I know at the time that I know it. That means if I misunderstood something when I wrote the post, then I wrote what I thought was correct. As I learned more I passed on more. I’m sure I have more than one post that probably is either outdated or incorrect in one way or the other. But it wasn’t intentional. I don’t like being given incorrect information, and I don’t like giving incorrect information.
I hope I’ve been transparent enough on this blog, my baby, my un-optimized, un-targeted labor of love that’s here mainly for readers, not buyers, for you to know that.
There’s been others I have learned from too. Some of those I have learned from are Darren at Problogger, and Yaro, and a few of the other A-List bloggers and from the “anti-A Lister crowd”.
Griz would have a fit if he read that I benefited from the A-listers. Not all of their posts have been useful to me, but a few have. Not all of my posts are useful for anyone but me, but some are.
I maintain that I can learn something from anyone and so far that has proven true.
In any case, I wanted to give some link love, give some credit where credit is due, and to write and to say “thanks for stopping by”. Since I write for readers at this blog, it’s nice to have some.

Jeffery,
I like your honesty.
I agree that everyone have something to offer (include A-List bloggers) but those who really change the course of my online venture are Griz and his friends especially Court&Mark and Ben.

I appreciate that Jarod. And I agree, Griz really put me on the fast track. I recently learned about Ben, if it’s the same Ben I’m thinking of and I know of Court and Mark.
Old habits are hard to break though, and it’s tough getting the mindset changed from just writing to writing around keywords.
